My TBR pile (and very brave kitty)
My To-be-Read (TBR) pile is getting out of hand (and this doesn’t include all the ebooks I’ve downloaded onto my iPad). I’ve started referring to it as a mountain, but I think I’m going to have to switch to a mountain range. We had an avalanche a few days ago. Several of the books fell, knocking over (but thankfully not breaking) my great-grandmother’s lamp and creating quite a mess (you can see how carefully I restacked them). Luckily no one was hurt, but my dogs no longer frequent that side of the room (though the cat doesn’t seem scared).

I’ve actually read a few of the books in the picture, but if I move them off the pile my husband will pack them into a box and stuff them in the attic before I can blink (sometimes I like to reread certain passages or even entire books, either to study craft or just because I love them so much). In addition to my TBR mountain and all the books in our library/office, we also have thousands in boxes up in the attic. Even if I became a full-time reader and live to be a hundred, I don’t think there’s enough time to read all the books I want to read.
How big is your TBR pile? Do you have any advice for me on how to manage mine? Perhaps a link to Book Buyers Anonymous…
My goodness Ally! I hope there’s no BODY missing in your household! lol My tbr is in a storage shed at the moment, other than the few I’ve accumulated since our move last July. I miss my babies! And then there was the huge (three produce boxes) load hubby hauled to the dump a few years ago! I was not home for one weekend! One! I’m still trying to find those treasures again. I think it’s hopeless. 🙁
LOL. You’d really be wondering about a body if I’d posted pictures of the upstairs (which is strictly the domain of the kiddos). Aack! I’d have to hurt my husband if he threw away my books.
WOW…I’m impressed! I guess if I put all my books together it’d look something like that…but I have some on bookshelves, some stored in totes, in a cedar chest, a huge PILE beside my bed and then all the ones on my nook. I actually need to go through some and make a donation. I’d love to keep them, but when the subject comes up and I say that, for some reason I get a frown from the hubs. LOL
And I’m scared for your cat…lmbo!
No worries about the kitty. She happened to follow me in there when I took the picture, but she rarely goes in there since she hates one of our dogs who often lays in the doorway. I definitely need more bookshelves.
Too funny! My TBR are in laundry baskets–no room for laundry here.
I would try laundry baskets, but my kids never seem to remove their clothes from them.
Wow, Ally! I think yours is worse than mine, but mine is spread out between print books and books on my Nook. You definitely win the prize though. lol
In fact, the reason I bought a Nook was to reduce the print book clutter in my house. Still have a lot of research books though.
Thanks for stopping by, Susan. I have the Nook and Kindle apps on my iPad, but I still find myself buying books. I especially like to have my research books as hardcopies rather than ebooks.
Thank you Ally! Your pile is definitely larger than mine and I’m going to show it to Thom when he complains about mine! It’s what writers do! I love studying them for craft as well. In fact, I’ve got Marilyn Brandt’s A Summer in Europe and Friday Mornings at Nine all highlighted and indexed. She used three POVs plus Omniscient in the same paragraph. Luv it!
In my defense, I’m writing in three different genres, so I have MG, YA, and historical romance books (plus all the others I like to read just for fun). My hubby is not allowed to complain because he’s the one who wants to make the bookshelves himself. Sigh.
Love the pictures. You absolutely need more bookshelves. In Germany we had tons of built-in bookshelves. We we moved to VA we had over 200 boxes of books and two bookshelves. When we moved to St Thomas, I was ruthless going through books, but I still have a big pile on the floor and bought two new bookshelves. Now I try to keep most of my books on my Kindle app on the laptop.
I definitely need more shelves. I’m trying to get used to reading on my iPad. I like it for travel, but I still prefer real books.
So, I had to stop by your blog to see if your stack of books is larger than mine. You win! I have a hard time getting rid of even the books I didn’t like. The kindle has helped, but I still like the feel of a book in my hands.
As you can clearly see, I’m bad at getting rid of books, too. I’m trying to go through my YA books and donate some, but my kids will be old enough for them soon (my oldest already is, but his taste in reading is a bit different from mine). I still prefer the feel of a book in my hands as well.
I am in awe. I can’t even imagine….. Mine is so much smaller. But I don’t have so much space to have a dream TBR pile like that!
I do kinda like my giant pile of books, but I wish I had more shelves. Right now it’s quite difficult, not to mention dangerous, to try to remove one from the middle or bottom.
